As an American mixed martial artist, he competes in the UFC’s featherweight division, where he currently holds the position of #11 in the UFC featherweight rankings as of July 12, 2021.

Prior to joining the UFC, he had amassed an undefeated professional mixed martial arts record of nine victories and appeared on the reality television series The Ultimate Fighter: Undefeated, where he competed in the Featherweight tournament. Despite a victory and a defeat, he was later signed to the UFC.

He defeated Tyler Diamond by majority decision in the UFC bout that took place on July 6, 2018, at The Ultimate Fighter: Undefeated.

Following that, when he fought Bobby Moffett on March 23, 2019, at UFC Fight Night: Thompson vs. Pettis, he not only won by unanimous decision, but he also won the Fight of the Night award.

When he faced Sayles on December 7, 2019, at UFC on ESPN: Overeem vs. Rozenstruik, he won through first-round submission via a twister; this was only the UFC’s second twister submission victory.

Prior to entering the UFC, he competed in the World Series of Fighting and Absolute Championship Berkut’s Light Heavyweight divisions, as well as the Professional Fighters League’s Middleweight division.

To be precise, in his World Series of Fighting debut against Teddy Holder of Tennessee on January 23, 2016, at WSOF 27, he won the bout through TKO (punches) in the first round.

Then, in a bout against Rodney Wallace in Absolute Championship Berkut on January 13, 2017, at ACB 51, he prevailed by split decision in a back-and-forth fight.

That is how he won their Bantamweight Championship, knocking out Alexey Nevzorov in the second round and then defeating Pavel Vitruk via unanimous decision.

He then successfully defended his title twice, first by defeating Sergey Morozov in the third round with a rear-naked choke, and then by knocking out Rafael Dias in the fifth round to retain his title. However, as part of his pact with the UFC, he relinquished his interim M-1 Global Bantamweight Championship.

On March 5, 2016, in his Cage Warriors debut, he faced Tyler Thomas in the featherweight division at Pain Pit Fight Night 15: Renegade and won via first-round submission.

Then, during his astounding nine-fight winning streak, he defeated defending bantamweight champion Mike Ekundayo at CWFC 100 on December 8, 2018, with takedowns and ground-and-pound, earning a third-round technical knockout victory.
